TITLE: Copies of plats and plans, 1728-1800
DATE: ca. 1820-1821
VOLUME: 2.00 volumes
ARRANGEMENT: The series has no discernible order.
SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series consists of a very large oversize
volume of copies of plats of towns, townships, baronies, and other
tracts. The copies were made by or under the supervision of Surveyor
General Daniel H. Tillinghast beginning in about 1820. Originals of some
of the plats are held by the repository, but others are not known to be
extant.
Plats and plans are scale drawings and show the scale to which they
are drawn; acreage; boundary markers; natural features; improvements, if
any; and the names of surrounding landowners. Roads, creeks, branches,
swamps, and the like are named.
FINDING AID: Entire series indexed in the repository's On-line
Consolidated Index to Multiple Record Series, 1675-1929. All personal
names and geographic features on these documents are included.
Plantation and barony names are indexed as topics, and the topical term
marshlands was used when the plat indicated the granting of marshland.
ADDITIONAL FORM: The entire series has been digitized and the
digital images are linked to index hits from the On-line Records
Index on the repository's website. A reduced size copy of the
volume made from the digitized images has been shelved with the volume.
