About Records of the Confederate

States of America

The repository holds a small group of records of the military and government of the Confederate States of America (CSA), consisting largely of records donated to the agency or microfilm copies of records in other repositories which were purchased by the department. Many of these records were created by individuals in an official capacity with the CSA. Included are order books, record and report books, quartermaster records, muster rolls, and enrollment books for chiefly infantry regiments.

The majority of the repository's records dealing with the Confederacy and the Civil War are found in other collections: State Records, Federal Records, County Records, and a small number in Private Records. Detailed information about Confederate records in the holdings may be found in Confederate Military Records at the Archives and in "Guide to Civil War Records" (see The Civil War Years publication list).
