SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE:  This series consists of monthly pay lists for state penitentiary employees.  The pay lists for 1868-1870 contain only the date, name of payee, and amount of pay.  Information on pay lists after 1870 includes date, name of payee, occupation of payee, rate of pay, total pay, payee's signature, and remarks (typically notations of an employee's discharge).

    Also included are pay vouchers submitted by the architect and engineer for payment of employees working on the construction of the state penitentiary in 1867-1868.  Information includes date, name of payee, occupation of payee, rate of pay, total pay, and signature of employee.
