BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE: The Inmate Advisory Council consists of an elected inmate representative from
each correctional facility and Dept. of Corrections administrators/wardens. The Council acts as a liaison
between inmates and the prison administration to resolve
inmate requests and grievances.
SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series consists of the minutes, notices, and agenda of the meetings of the Inmate
Advisory Council (IAC) as well as memoranda concerning the activities of the IAC. Also contained is a copy of the IAC
constitution. Information in the minutes includes meeting
place and date, attendees, discussion of meeting issues, and signatures of preparer and reviewer. Memoranda usually
include the addressees, subject/issue, and a check of
approval/disapproval for reviewing officials.
Issues such as disciplinary policy; building repairs; work
release; visitation; inmate personal property, clothing, and
supplies; donation of IAC funds, IAC elections; fund-raising
projects; showing of movies and videos; library improvements and purchases; Black History Month programs;
and games for visitors and children were discussed at meetings or represented in the memoranda.
