SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series contains letters of application for appointment to the State Constabulary, letters of recommendation, and letters of acknowledgement.

This series also contains applications for appointment as state constables serving without compensation. The latter were submitted on standardized forms and include the name, address, race, county of residence, occupation of the applicant, and a statement of his reasons for seeking appointment. The forms are dated and signed by the applicant and those recommending the appointment.

When an applicant was appointed to a position on the State Constabulary force or as a constable serving without compensation, all records pertaining to this application were removed from this series and filed with his appointment in the Constabulary Appointments series.
