SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series was created and maintained by State Constable L.C. Johnson in an office located in his home. Upon Johnson's death in 1930, his widow turned these files over to the governor's office.

Because Johnson apparently had reported his activities much less regularly than had other members of the State Constabulary, this file was used initially to determine the status of cases in progress and was retained to provide documentation of Johnson's activities missing from the reports series.

This series documents criminal investigations undertaken by Johnson and contains correspondence, working notes, affidavits, hand-drawn maps of scenes of crimes, arrest warrants, and transcripts of testimony taken at coroners' inquests. Crimes investigated include murder and robbery. Information includes the nature, location, and circumstances of crimes; names of alleged criminals and their victims; actions taken by Johnson in the course of his investigations; and the final disposition of cases Johnson investigated.
