ARRANGEMENT: Series arranged in two sections: subjects arranged alphabetically, and state agencies arranged alphabetically.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE: The Civil Contingent Fund was established by the General Assembly in the Appropriations Act of 1920, with no mention of how it was to be administered.

The Civil Contingent Fund Committee was created in the Appropriations Act of 1921. Consisting of the governor, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and the chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, the committee was authorized to approve the expenditure of funds appropriated for emergency and contingent expenses of state government. The committee's duties were transferred to the Budget Commission in 1947.

SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series records transactions of the Civil Contingent Fund Committee and contains committee minutes, correspondence, and notices of meetings. Individual files for the various agencies, universities and colleges, and departments of state government document such matters as appropriations transfers.
