SUMMARY SCOPE NOTE: This series was created as part of a filing system
introduced into the governor's office in 1917 and was designed to hold recurrent
records which did not accumulate as rapidly as did those filed as separate
subject series. The series contains the inquest reports received by authority of
S.C. Statute 1873(15)439 and election proclamations issued by authority of S.C.
Statute 1914(29)592, as well as files about various associations, conferences,
and congresses.
The series also contains holiday proclamations, press releases, recommendations,
resignations, reports, invitations, requests for interviews, and correspondence
with governors of other states. The Washington File records the governor's
dealings with the federal government including South Carolina Congressional
delegations.
Subjects treated in this series include agriculture, unemployment, prohibition,
roads and highways, tourism, Catawba Indians, and taxation.
